Volkswagen is working to move forward from the diesel emissions scandal and is refocusing their United States sales efforts on the popular SUV market. The car manufacturer unveiled the most recent iteration of their compact SUV, the Tiguan, at the North American International Auto Show.
The completely redesigned Tiguan is getting longer and more capable for 2018 with features made to specifically attract American purchasers.
Based on Volkswagen Group’s modular MQB vehicle architecture– discovered under the Audi A3, TT, Q3 and upcoming 2018 Q5 along with the Volkswagen Golf, Passat and upcoming 2018 Atlas– the brand-new 2018 Tiguan remains in outstanding company.
Better yet, we get the long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan, the one particularly developed for Americans. It boasts a 4.4-inch wheelbase stretch to make sure that U.S. market clients find it enticing.
Characterizing the 2018 Tiguan’s sharpened styling as “clean and timeless style,” Volkswagen says the new SUV is wider, lower, and a massive 10.7 inches longer than the outbound model. Depending on the model, LED lighting illuminates the course forward, and the leading trim level is offered with magnificent appealing aluminum wheels.
Inside, the Tiguan’s products and surface patterns develop a premium appearance, and thanks to the SUV’s stretched wheelbase and bodywork, it accommodates approximately seven passengers in 3 rows of seats.
The third-row seat is standard in Tiguans with front-wheel drive and is a choice in Tiguans with all-wheel drive. A 40/20/40-split folding second-row seat likewise moves forward and back to make more space for travelers and freight.
Boasting a 57 percent boost in freight space, the new Tiguan is much roomier inside than previously. Doing the mathematics based upon current Tiguan measurements, the new SUV should hold more than 37 cubic feet of cargo behind its second-row seat. The liftover height is lower, too, reducing the pain of filling heavy products.
Under the hood is an updated variation of Volkswagen’s turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter TSI engine, making 184 horse power and 221 pound-feet of torque and mating with an eight-speed automated transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and 4Motion all-wheel drive with Active Control is optional and features four selectable traction modes.
The supersized Tiguan will launch in Europe in the second half of 2017, where it will be called the Tiguan Allspace and sell for about 30,000 euros alongside the much shorter model. In U.S., it’ll simply be the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. Rates and availability should be within a similar window, but have actually not yet been settled or announced.
