The modern-day Chrysler 300 was presented in 2004, nearly four decades after the preliminary 300 “letter series” was stopped. Bolted on the company’s rear-wheel-drive LX platform with components from the W211-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the 300 debuted with a host of V-6 and V-8 gasoline powerplants, plus a diesel unit for European markets. The full-size sedan was upgraded for the 2011 model year, getting many drivetrain and technology upgrades. The second-gen car received a facelift for 2015, that included a substantially modified front fascia to name a few features.
Inning accordance with Ralph Gilles (Chrysler head of style), the next-generation 300 will continue to have an unique presence. “In type or shape, the car’s always going to have its own aesthetic. Existence can be found in many ways. The silhouette needs to be unique. Whatever it is, any place we end up, it needs to be special,” he told Car Advice. Although he decreased to elaborate, Gilles did suggest the company is considering more than one style for the next-generation sedan. Something is particular though, the upgraded 300 will maintain some of the information that assisted make the first-generation car an instant classic.
Gilles had nothing to state about the 300’s new interior, however we expect a greatly upgraded cabin– likely influenced from the 200’s– with added premium features, more soft-touch surfaces, and upgraded technology.
The engine lineup is still a secret, but V-6 and V-8 powerplants are most likely on the table for 2018 as well. Whether Chrysler is establishing new engines or not, we expect the 2018 Chrysler 300 to see improvements in both the output and fuel effectiveness departments. The present 300 returns up to 31 mpg on the highway, putting it above both the Chevy Impala and the Ford Taurus.
We expect the 2018 Chrysler 300 to start in showrooms this year or next. It’ll likely stay near the current model’s price series of $33,435-$46,365. Key competitors to the 300 include the Genesis G80, Kia Cadenza, and Buick LaCrosse.
